Aquatic Ecologist – Applied Research Position

Job Description: BIO-WEST, Inc. is seeking an independent, analytical, detail-oriented, and highly-motivated individual to fill a full-time aquatic ecologist position based out of our San Marcos, Texas office. This individual will be responsible for actively participating in and directing an applied research program focusing on aquatic macroinvertebrate species of concern along with freshwater mussels. This is a research based position with the major portion of duties to be performed within an established laboratory setting. Field work to collect research organisms, perform in situ experimentation in the wild, and participate in other BIO-WEST aquatic ecology field investigations (with focus on aquatic invertebrates) will also be required.   Applicant should be skilled at experimental design, statistical analysis, problem solving, and technical writing. Applicant should also possess the ability to communicate effectively and present study results to stakeholders, clients, scientific panels, and review committees.

Requirements: Passion for aquatic invertebrates and cutting edge applied research. M. S. degree in Aquatic Ecology or related field required. Ph.D. in similar field highly preferred. Experience working in or directing a research program with supervisory responsibilities a plus.

Skills: Strong research oriented experimental design, analytical and writing skills required. Applicant should be familiar with common analysis/statistical packages such as R, GIS software (ArcGIS and/or QGIS), as well as MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint).
