Hydrologic Technician

Mr. Johnsen has worked a hydrologic technician for BIO-WEST for the past four years. He works on projects relating to hydrology, river and stream restoration, fisheries, and geomorphic assessment. His skills include geomorphic analysis, field surveying and conducting geomorphologic measurements, bedload and suspended sediment sampling, flow data compilation and analysis, stream discharge measurements, bankfull width and depth determination, stream restoration design and construction oversight, fish tracking and sampling. He has a B.S. in Hydrogeology from Utah State University.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Skilled in sampling bedload and suspended sediment from peak to base flow

  • Set up an entire geomorphic survey from scratch using known GPS points

  • Can survey accurately (within .05 feet) using Total Station and TDS software

  • Accurately assesses geomorphic conditions and collects data to understand problems

  • Has a practical understanding of fluvial processes

  • Designed a comprehensive stream restoration

  • Performed oversight for all types of stream-related construction

  • Lead fieldwork in all types of geomorphic data collection

  • Skilled in analyzing and interpreting geomorphic data and presenting geomorphic data in a clear, concise manner through software applications and technical writing

  • Proficient in ArcView, WinXSPRO, WordPerfect and Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word
