Fisheries Technician

Mr. Rogers has worked as a fisheries technician for BIO-WEST for more than 2 years. He has experience in both lake and stream ecosystems, has assisted with research and collection activities in Lake Powell and other reservoirs in Utah, and has limnological experience, which includes collecting physical and chemical data from lakes. Mr. Rogers's stream system experience includes assessing the physical and chemical aspects of habitats, collecting fish, and employing fish-surveying techniques including canoe electrofishing, backpack electrofishing, and snorkeling in cold-water mountain streams. In addition, he is a certified SCUBA diver and has performed numerous dives in both deep and shallow marine and freshwater environments. Mr. Rogers's skills in lab studies include scale, fin-ray, and otolith aging; as well as zooplankton identification, macro invertebrate identification, and fish vertebrate identification. He received his B.S. degree in fisheries and aquatic science from Utah State University and holds a B.A. in sociology and anthropology from Hiram College.

  • Experienced with a variety of in-lake fish collection methods including gill netting, trap netting, electrofishing, minnow trapping, and trawling

  • Skilled in coping with environmental factors including weather conditions and strenuous physical situations

  • Understands the principles of fisheries biology, fisheries management, biology, ecology, and habitat quality associated with field and lab collections and data analyses
