Field Hydrogeologist

Mr. Nelson is responsible for site investigation and remediation system operation for underground storage tanks (USTs) and hazardous waste sites. His experience includes remediation system operation and maintenance, well installation, waste water sampling, Phase I and Phase II investigations, report writing, groundwater modeling, GIS mapping, soil and water sampling, and land surveying. Mr. Nelson is familiar with Federal acts dealing with chemicals and the environment. He is a Utah-licensed professional geologist, certified Utah UST groundwater and soil sampler, Utah-licensed commercial pesticide applicator, and has completed the OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification. Mr. Nelson is adept at groundwater modeling using Visual MODFLOW, mapping with ArcGIS and Surfer, analyzing pumping-test data using AQTESOLV, analyzing geophysical well logs, and creating geologic logs with LogPlot. He graduated in 2010 with an M.S. in geology from Utah State University, where he used MODFLOW to create a numerical groundwater flow model that simulated groundwater-surface water interactions at a proposed artificial salmon-spawning stream in Hyder, Alaska. Mr. Nelson also holds a B.S. in geology from Saint Norbert College.
