Principal, Environmental Engineering Section Leader, Senior Hydrogeologist

Mr. Thompson is a principal, the Environmental Engineering Section Leader, and a Senior Hydrogeologist who has worked for BIO-WEST for fifteen years. His responsibilities include project management, geology, hydrogeology, soils, air quality, hazardous waste and storm water management. Mr. Thompson has participated on a number of interdisciplinary teams conducting NEPA analyses, where he was responsible for documenting impacts to geologic and groundwater resources. He has evaluated groundwater resources for stream restoration and wetland mitigation projects. He has also evaluated potential impacts to drinking water sources and assisted clients with water right evaluations. He has in-depth experience with the state water regulations for Utah, Idaho, and the surrounding states, and has established a rapport with regulators in each of these states. He is a candidate for an M.S. in Geology and Hazardous Waste Geology from Brigham Young University, and he has a B.S. in Composite Sciences with a Geology Emphasis from Southern Utah State University and an A.S. in Geology from Snow College.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Is a registered Professional Geologist (Wyoming PG-2913) and a Utah-certified Environmental Consultant (CC0070)

  • Proficient in creating Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWP3)

  • Manages petroleum- and chemically-contaminated sites, including subsurface investigations, corrective action development, waste management, regulatory compliance, and remediation system design

  • Familiar with many chemical and environmental Federal acts (as well as their state counterparts) including: RCRA, CERCLA, CAA, CWA, SDWA, NEPA, and OSHA

  • Has instructed courses on controlling erosion and sedimentation on highway and other construction projects

  • Has hands-on experience with various soil and groundwater remediation methods, which he gained during the design, installation, and operation of numerous systems

  • Has completed numerous Phase I and Phase II Environmental Assessments for real estate transactions and transportation corridors
