Position Overview:

BIO-WEST is seeking a full-time Transportation Planner with proficiency in GIS and strong writing skills to join our GIS & Planning group. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with experience in transportation planning, a deep understanding of data governance, and a passion for leveraging technology to drive impactful solutions. This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) across the United States and contribute to the development and implementation of enterprise solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • GIS needs across a variety of transportation-related projects, collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in conducting data, technology, and process assessments, and contribute to enhancements as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of vision and strategic plans, including roadmaps for technology integration and digital delivery.
  • Participate in the design, enhancement, or implementation of tools to address the evolving needs of state agencies.
  • Develop clear and compelling communication materials to facilitate project understanding and stakeholder engagement.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and assist in their evaluation for potential adoption.
  • Prepare and facilitate workshops or training sessions to support knowledge sharing and capacity building.
  • Utilize research data effectively to inform decision-making processes and project outcomes.
  • Coordinate project activities and communication effectively to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Evaluate the impact of new software or modifications on existing standards and systems.
  • Collect, manipulate, and analyze data from various sources to derive meaningful insights.
  • Prepare maps, applications, reports, and visualizations to communicate findings to diverse stakeholders.
  • Identify trends and patterns in data to inform strategic business decisions and improve transportation planning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, GIS, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • experience.
  • Proficiency in GIS software and tools, with demonstrated experience in spatial data analysis and management.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Knowledge of data governance principles and practices, with experience in developing and maintaining data standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals. 
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Must be located within the United States and able to work Mountain Time zone hours.
